Our History
Colonial House, Inc. has served the York community since 1969, providing safe, supportive, and therapeutic environments for individuals seeking recovery from substance use disorders. What began as an eight-bed home in a stone farmhouse has grown into a multi-program organization dedicated to accessible, evidence-based, trauma-informed care.
Over the years, Colonial House expanded to larger residential campuses, rebuilt after multiple facility fires, and broadened services to include both men and women in treatment. In 2004, we introduced outpatient services and later moved to our current location on East Market Street to meet growing community needs.
Trauma-Informed, Gender-Responsive, and ASAM-Aligned Care
Our programs are designed to promote safety, empowerment, and individualized treatment planning. We recognize the unique needs of each person and ensure that our services align with ASAM criteria across all levels of care.
2025 Program Expansions
In 2025, Colonial House strengthened its continuum of care with two major expansions:
- Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP): A higher-intensity outpatient level of care offering structured, daily clinical support consistent with ASAM Level 2.5.
- Reintroduction of Women’s Inpatient Services: A dedicated, trauma-responsive residential program that provides women with a safe, empowering environment for healing and recovery.
Looking Ahead
Despite fires, relocations, and changing community needs, our mission has remained the same: to support individuals and families affected by substance use disorders with compassion, dignity, and evidence-based treatment. Colonial House continues to grow, adapt, and expand access to high-quality care—carrying forward a legacy of resilience and hope for generations to come.
